This is a knitted shirt from Pendeen, deeply rooted in Jamaican music and culture.

Originally designed as underwear for mountaineering, the knitted shirt made its way to Jamaica, then a British colony, where it evolved into its own unique style. In Jamaica, it's known as a marina or mesh marina. The mesh material is exactly as it looks, providing excellent ventilation and comfort, making it a common sight throughout the city.

Many people also became aware of it through its association with black artists with Caribbean roots. In recent years, Rihanna's use of it in a music video has brought it back into the spotlight. Here in Japan, many people are familiar with it as the ami-shirt (knitted shirt) thanks to Rankin's hit song Ami-shirt Soul and its popularity among reggae artists.

This particular shirt is from PENDEEN, a long-established British brand. It's made with a special mesh structure that's breathable and comfortable, using 100% cotton fabric that stretches and wicks away sweat while maintaining body temperature.

It can be worn on its own, or as an undershirt under a T-shirt, letting the hem peek out. We highly recommend you try it out!
