Lactic acid (lactate) is produced by lactic acid dehydrogenase (LDH) under hypoxic or anaerobic conditions. D-lactic acid is made in only minor quantities by animals, so measuring for D-lactic acid in animals is a means to determine the level of bacterial infection. Furthermore, since D-lactic acid is a product of bacteria fermentation, its measurement can be used to determine the freshness of milk, meat, and fruit juices. Elevated levels of D-lactic acid in wine is an indication of bacterial contamination. BioAssay Systems’ QuantiQuik D-Lactic acid Test Strips are based on D-lactic acid dehydrogenase catalyzed oxidation of D-lactic acid where the formed NADH reduces a chromogenic reagent. The intensity of the color is proportional to the D-lactic acid concentration in the sample. Materials required but not provided: pipettes FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: My doctor said that I need to get my lactate levels tested. Can I use this product with my urine/blood? A: These strips are not for clinical use, and are for RESEARCH USE ONLY. This means that they should never be used for health-related decisions. Q: I didn't receive a protocol sheet with this kit. Where should I go to get instructions? A: The protocol sheet is included in the kit. You can also contact us for a pdf. Q: How should I store these strips? A: The strips can be stored at room temperature and kept away from heat/moisture. They have a 6 month shelf life, and should be used within a week of opening. Q: The strip turned very dark purple, how can I determine the lactae concentration? A: The lactate is too high for the strip to detect. Dilute your sample in water and re-run the test with another strip.
